<p>On behalf of the organising committee of SOUL, I warmly invite you to the Society of University Lawyers 2010 Annual Conference in Hobart, Tasmania on Friday 5 November 2010.</p>
<p>The theme for the 2010 Conference is <em><strong>University Lawyers &amp; the public good: a road well travelled</strong></em>. The conference will deal with the unique legal practice area of tertiary education. The conference will be of interest to those involved in legal matters affecting higher education institutions including university in-house lawyers and private practitioners. There will also be opportunities to network with colleagues and other practitioners.</p>
<p>Our keynote address, <em><strong>Lawyers and Ethics</strong>,</em> is by Dr Helen Durham, Strategic Adviser, International Law for Australian Red Cross and Senior Fellow at Melbourne Law School.</p>
<p>Conference sessions also include&#8230;</p>

<li>Peer to Peer Pressure: Reflections on the iiNet case &#8211; making universities small target in the Filesharing War.<br />

<p>SOUL&#8217;s mandate is to promote the exchange of information on legal matters affecting universities and tertiary education generally. </p>
<p>SOUL hosts an annual conference exploring a wide range of legal issues affecting universities including: discrimination law, compliance &amp; governance, intellectual property commercialisation, student misconduct and student rights, negotiating with IT vendors, public private partnerships, research governance, international ventures, defamation and dispute resolution. The conference attracts national and international speakers and participation from the public and private sector. </p>
<p>SOUL members maintain active regional chapters around the country and host regular meetings of SOUL regional members.</p>
<p>This web site has been established to support SOUL members and members of the public interested in legal issues affecting higher education and research.</p>
